Three decades of traveling
Since 1996, Ferreira has been warming up the Montreal scene. Founded by Carlos Ferreira, the restaurant was born from a grand dream, the one that has sustained and nurtured it all these years: to create a true Portuguese culinary embassy in its adopted home and to make it one of Montreal's great restaurants—the two being inseparable. This ambition has materialized in the city center, and Ferreira has established itself among the metropolis's finest dining establishments.
« From the very beginning, I didn't just want to open a restaurant in Montreal. I wanted Portugal to be recognized and respected there, and for people to be able to say, even outside the country, that Ferreira is among the great Portuguese restaurants. " underlines the founder of the Group that bears his name, Carlos Ferreira.
Over the decades, Ferreira has become a constant meeting placeThis is a favorite with both food lovers and a loyal business clientele. They return for the quality of the products, for an impressive selection of wines showcasing Portugal's great wine regions, including vintages from the family vineyard in the upper Douro, and for the olive oil from the family's own grove. A multiple recipient of Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence, the wine list reflects Ferreira's unique position among the leading ambassadors of Portuguese wines in Canada, while also giving pride of place to major international producers.
Carlos Ferreira remains present, having built the house with the support of his brothers and sisters. Today, The story continues to be written within the family with the second generation, while Sandra and Claudia Ferreira joined the adventure about ten years ago, in a natural and deliberate continuity.
Renovations to continue welcoming guests like they're at home
As part of its anniversary year, Ferreira is undertaking a transformation designed to evolve the dining experience, renovating the entire restaurant, including its private spaces, while respecting its character. The concept was conceived by artistic director Jean-François Gervais, a family friend, following a trip they took together to Portugal, and the project is being carried out in collaboration with EXTRA Architecture & Design and NORCAM. Spanning 6,000 square feet, the restaurant will be completely redesigned, with an emphasis on premium materials.
The Ferreira Private Room, which can accommodate up to 64 seated guests or 120 for a cocktail reception, will be renovated, while the Rosa Private Room will offer a more intimate option for groups of up to 20 seated guests. The audiovisual equipment has also been modernized to support presentations, conferences, and business meetings, without compromising the refined atmosphere for which the venue is renowned.
« This renovation goes far beyond a change of scenery. It reflects our desire to prepare Ferreira for the next decade, with the same consistency, attention to detail, and ambition that have driven us for 30 years. ", Explain Sandra Ferreira, general manager.
