Quebec, Thursday January 19, 2017 – The popular ones Quebec and Montreal Motorcycle Shows, presented in February by La Capitale General Insurance, will be an opportunity to observe the new trends that are emerging in the world of motorcycles, not only in terms of the products and cars offered, but also in terms of consumer trends. Indeed, the face of motorcycling is changing and is now succeeding in attracting new audiences. The most recent information grouped by the SAAQ [1], which collects data year after year on motorcycle license holders (all categories combined) and vehicles, makes it possible to demonstrate how new market segments stand out and are now increasingly present.
We note in particular that in Quebec, the number of women holding a motorcycle driving license (class 6A, 6B, 6C or 6E combined) increased by 4492 women between 2014 and 2015, an increase of 6.5%. This impressive figure represents 48% of the total increase observed in 2015 in the number of motorcycle license holders. We therefore see that women tend to follow men more and more closely. Noting that in 2015, only 15% of license holders were female, this 6,5% increase in the last year is all the more impressive. This is also the first increase in the number of female license holders in at least ten years.
The figures analyzing variations in motorcycle ownership are equally encouraging: there has been an increase of almost
30% of the number of motorcycles on the roads of Quebec in the last ten years! Between 2014 and 2015 alone, there was a total increase of 5% in the number of motorcycle owners. This increase is based in particular on the growth of the segment of women motorcycle owners which increased by 5,6% between the two years. We also owe this increase to the positive figures from the category of men owning a motorcycle, which saw an increase of 4,6%.
The conclusion that can be drawn from these recent statistical data is the following: there are currently more motorcyclists on the roads of Quebec than ten years ago and we observe that the profile of motorcyclists has diversified in recent years. years, leaving more and more room for new market segments! Good news for the entire industry!
